By Alia Yousseff- It is that time again; students are returning to our normal routine of waking up early in the morning, going to school and coming back home. But school doesn’t have to be a pain if you balance socializing with focusing and getting the academics you want to achieve.

Here are a few tips I’ve picked up through my years at school as this will be my last year as a high school student at American International School, Abu Dhabi.

1-Be proactive –Whenever you get an assignment do it the day it was given! Don’t procrastinate and wait till the last minute where you’ll get bogged down with lots of assignments. Do everything on time.

2-Get involved– Whether it’s the school’s track and field team or Model United Nations, take part in the activities your school has to offer. You’ll meet new people and become an even bigger part of the school’s community.

3-Follow your goals– Write down your top five goals that you want to achieve during your school year. Try to follow them through until you reach what you’re aiming for.

4-Get active– Go to the gym or take a walk on the Corniche if the weather is good. Moving your body always relieves stress and makes your brain more active.

5-Ask for help– Don’t be afraid to go ask your teachers or one of your friends for help with something you don’t understand. Asking isn’t an embarrassment!
