Handmade with Love

“My name is Betty Guerra, I am 54 and I come from Venezuela. I am a goldsmith and the owner of BG Creations, which makes handmade jewellery. I think that what makes my jewellery stand out among others is a certain touch – I always like to add something unique to identify my pieces, such as different kind of amulets and stones. 

“Ever since I was very young I used to create my own slippers, dresses and accessories for me and my friends. For me designing is meditation and an encounter with my innermost self; something I wish I could do every day. My aim is simply to enhance women’s own beauty. Though I love to use warm colours I also get inspired by the hues of the seasons surrounding me.

“The most difficult thing for me is to find the materials so I often have to travel long distances between cities or countries to find what I need. I believe that there is a large market here for designers because everyone has their own style and their own customers. In my home country of Venezuela you are given the opportunity to learn different kind of skills, from design stage, to goldsmithing.

“I think any designer can succeed if you are passionate; do it with all your heart, mind and love.”
